At Marco, giving back to the communities we live and work in is as important as getting on with daily responsibilities. As a member of a number of different communities, Marco values the ties it has with each local community we do business in. Here are some of the ways and reasons why we give back:
It Starts with Our People
Marco's connection to the community begins and ends with its employees. The individuals working at Marco live in the local communities, and in the interest of promoting strong, healthy communities, Marco employees enjoy one of the best work environments in the country.
All employees are encouraged to become involved with local charities, nonprofits and fundraisers. Marco even goes as far to devote company time by having employees volunteer in their communities while on the clock. At Marco, it's not enough to do well in business; we also want to "do good."
Honoring Our Minnesota Roots
Through Marco's charitable giving program, we have committed to donating up to 5% of annual profits to local charities.
In addition to monetary donations, Marco employees also volunteer time supporting many community activities. Here are a few examples:
- CentraCare’s Holly Ball
Marco is a presenting sponsor and many of our employees volunteer on the planning and event committees. - Big Brothers/Big Sisters Magic Moments Gala
Marco is a presenting sponsor and many of our employees also volunteer. - Junior Achievement Big Bowl
In 2014, these volunteers, in partnership with CliftonLarsonAllen, raised $17,000 for Junior Acheivement. - Junior Achievement Classroom Involvement
Volunteers teach students about topics such as entrepreneurship, work readiness, our community and financial literacy.
Making a Difference in North Dakota
Marco supports the volunteer activities of every employee. Knowing this, they seize opportunities to get involved in groups and organizations that matter to them.
In 2014, Marco made a major difference for a number of North Dakota nonprofit organizations, including:
- Information Technology Council of North Dakota
- Shakers of ND
- Red Cross of the Red River Valley
- Moorhead Youth Hockey Association
- Jeremiah Program
Additional contributions include fundraising efforts for Fargo Public Schools Metro Tech Camp, the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign and Town & Country Credit Union Gold Tournament for the YWCA Shelter.
Serving All Communities
In addition to local community involvement, we also make contributions on a national level. This is visible in the creation of a Marco scholarship endowment at Minnesota State University-Moorhead (which attracts students from across the country) that helps students afford an education and find jobs in their local communities.
Our broader support is represented with our partnership with the United Way, which directly supports all communities our employees live and work in. In 2015, Marco's company-wide United Way campaign raised $168,000.
Why We Believe in Doing Good
As you can see, we have a group of very caring employees with diverse passions. This allows us to contribute to a wide variety of groups and organizations in many differing capacities.
For Marco, we feel doing good is good for business. We want to be a responsible corporate partner in every community we serve. Being a good member of the community not only speaks to the quality of the individual, but also to the quality of the entire company. Marco's spirit of giving has been a primary focus since its beginning, and we have no plans of changing this.
