Copy Center Upgrade with Color and High Volume Units

Dunwoody Bookstore and Copy Center

The Challenge

When Dunwoody Bookstore and Copy Center’s contract came up for renewal, Brandon Andersen, entrepreneur, seized the opportunity to develop a competitive proposal that was not only profitable, but also more cost effective and efficient for Dunwoody College. The Bookstore was using 5-10 year old equipment that was no longer efficient and becoming costly to maintain. Brandon looked to Marco to help him put together a competitive bid that gave the students and faculty better and more efficient service and also saved them over 40% on their copying costs. “I worked with Marco in my previous position as CFO of Washington Mint, so I had a lot of trust in Marco and knew they could help me put together a solution to fit our needs," said Brandon.

The Solution

Dunwoody Bookstore and Copy Center currently has a Sharp AR-C150 color copier/printer and a high volume Konica 7075 copier from Marco. Both copiers are connected to the campus network so faculty and students can quickly and easily print to them.

The Sharp color copier is used for faculty and student presentations such as electrical designs. Connectivity features allow them to expand access and availability, giving 35-40 people digital access to the unit. Marco helped the Dunwoody Bookstore create a total solution by researching and recommending Command Workstation Software which allows them to track usage by user ID so they can easily manage charge backs to their users when needed. “When we first got the Sharp color copier, we were doing about 500 copies per month. Now, because of the nice copy quality and improved connectivity, we do about 2,500 copies per month,” commented Brandon.

Dunwoody Bookstore also sets up departmental codes on its Konica 7075 so copy usage by departments can be tracked. The Bookstore averages 180,000-200,000 black and white copies per month. Seventy-five percent of its business is currently drop off requests by students and faculty, the remainder of jobs are sent by users through the network connection.

Marco’s three-year Managed Account Program allowed Dunwoody Bookstore to develop a plan to pay for only the number of copies used. Brandon Andersen commented, “From a financing standpoint, the flexibility provided me was key in my decision to partner with Marco. Steve Gau, Marco Account Representative, worked with me to figure out a flexible plan to keep our copy minimums low. With Marco’s copying solutions, we now save Dunwoody College $15,000 to $20,000 per year.”

Marco’s Managed Account Program also allowed Dunwoody Bookstore much flexibility in copier features. Brandon noted, “We started using a Konica 6065 copier; however, we found we needed a unit with additional tracking features. Two weeks later Marco upgraded us to a Konica 7075 at the same cost per copy rate and did not even charge us for setup. Marco’s Managed Account Program allows us to upgrade our equipment at no extra cost as our copy volume and need for additional features change.”

When it comes to the performance of their new equipment, “Our copy quality is much better now than we ever had before,” said Brandon. “And our response time to our faculty and students is much quicker. It used to be if someone dropped off a job, they’d be happy if they got it back the next day. Now many times they can get their job turned around in just a few minutes.”

Installation, Training, and Service

In regards to the installation, “Marco’s installation team was very flexible in trying to make a seamless transition with the faculty and office staff,” said Brandon. “Marco put together a detailed email training guide to assist users with the new copiers.”

And when Dunwoody Bookstore needs service—they get it fast. “We’ve been very happy with our response time from Marco,” said Brandon. “We place a service call to Marco in the morning, and someone is out here in just a few hours. Our Marco service technician is a very friendly and conscientious person.”

When asked about Marco’s overall performance, Brandon replied, “I trust Marco. In fact, I often recommend Marco to other areas on campus and other companies as well.”
